The big lift was successful!

The antenna was lifted onto the base of the first ngvla prototype antenna.

For the 21st century, astronomers envision the next generation of the Very Large Array (ngVLA) with 244 18-meter dishes spread over 860 km. Another 19 6-meter (20-foot) dishes will form a short-range array at the heart of the telescope. These decisions are not arbitrary. A consensus was reached through the involvement of the larger astronomical community. This observatory is needed to answer some of the most important scientific questions to which radio astronomy can contribute.

Now the telescope’s first antenna has been successfully installed. This first very large array antenna of the next generation is dedicated to the man who laid the foundation not only for this project, but also for mtex as a whole: Dr. Karl-Heinz Stenvers
